Celebrate Our Local Farmers At Harbor Beach's AG Venture Day

The downtown streets of Harbor Beach will be closed this Saturday. Not for construction or roadwork though. It's because all types of agriculture and farm equipment be filling the streets for the public to experience up close and celebrate those that feed us at city's first AG Venture Day.

On AG Venture Day many local farmers and agribusinesses are donating their equipment and time for this event. They're doing it to ensure those in attendance are able to gain an understanding of how the various pieces of equipment operate, and everything it takes to provide a safe and affordable food source.

The day kicks off with a Farm Fit obstacle course 5K that gets under way at 8am. Competitors will have the option to run a 5K, walk two miles or those looking for that extra fun and intense workout, can treat themselves to the Farm Fit Challenge, a 5K with farm obstacles to maneuver. Plan to get wet, sandy and sweaty on the Farm Fit Challenge course. Registration for it starts at 7am and you can get a form to participate here.

The rest of the day’s activities get underway at 10:00 a.m. and run through 4:00 p.m. Stroll the downtown streets to get up close to the equipment and talk with local farmers. Kid games by the Harbor Beach FFA and Kiddie Tractor Pulls will take place on the Murphy Museum Lawn, while food will be available at the local businesses. Country bands Shotguns and Violins and The Taylor Tucky Band will play sets throughout the day.

Also starting at 10am are the farm tours. Learn about the beef and dairy industry while experiencing the farm and animals first hand. Buses will leave Harbor Beach at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. and 12:00, 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. for this two-hour round trip to tour a beef farm and robotic dairy farm.

While checking out AG Venture Days be sure to stop in at the Harbor Beach Community Theatre to see the film “Farmland", which spotlights various types of farms and how land is preserved while producing America’s food. This documentary will be showing at 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m.

At 1pm there will be a “Mooing Contest.” All ages, young and wise, can give their best “Mooooooo” for a chance to win. There will be three age groups with appropriate prizes presented to the winners.

AG Venture Day will be filled with activities and unique experiences you are sure to enjoy, all free of charge, because of the many supportive sponsors.
