TBT: Port Huron's International Day Parade 1969

For this Throwback Thursday we go back to 1969. On that year, the International Day Parade was held on July 16th on that year which also happened to be the same day that the Apollo 11 was launched for it's a journey to land on the moon. None the less, people filled the streets of downtown Port Huron to watch the floats, marching bands and, as in this photo, the Lionettes majorettes passing in front of the Harrington, go by.

The parade in Port Huron this year is on Wednesday, July 17th. It serves as the kick off for the Blue Water Fest and Boat Weekend.

What are some of your favorite Blue Water Fest memories?

TBT: Bathing Beach Port Huron, Michigan

Let's take a second and pretend it's not a cold winter day today. Instead, let's imagine it is summer.

For this Throwback Thursday here's a postcard from the early 1900's featuring a day at the beach in Port Huron to help with that thought.

TBT: Riverside at The St Clair Inn

With the news of the work starting on restoring and refurbishing the St Clair Inn, we figured it was a good day to Throwback Thursday with a postcard down by the riverside of the hotel's days of yore. Though the postcard is undated, the St Clair Inn was originally opened in 1926 and it is thought that this hand-painted card was made around the same time.

Until last year, that is. That's when the Federal Hockey League team the Port Huron Prowlers won the Governor's Cup in the teams inaugural season when they swept the Danbury Dashers 3-0 in a best of five competition for the championship.
